“Synthesizer Theory”
??? - “SYNTHESIZER THEORY” book-on-tape? (19??)
I got this from Soulseek a while ago, and I’ve not been able to track down a single mention of the source of this recording. The original MP3 download was tagged “Robert Moog”, but I’m pretty sure it’s actually not him, since the voice on this recording doesn’t have Moog’s standard-issue New England drawl. What the recording does have is a really handy intro into the nuts-and-bolts of how analog synths work, and I don’t know if it was meant to be a bonus disc to an edition of a book, some radio program, or an audio rip of an instructional video from a college course. Whatever the case may be, it is mandatory coursework for any musician, electronic or not.
As always, any info on the recording would be greatly appreciated.

As a proud U of Iowa grad, I can give point you in the direction of info on this recording. You’re correct, this is not Bob Moog.

This “Moog Synthesizer Demo” was recorded by Peter Todd Lewis, Dir. of the University of Iowa Electronic Music Studio from 1968-80.

The guy in the graphic sure looks like Bob Moog though …

It does look like him. I talked to him on the phone once or twice when buying my theremin from his co. in the mid-90s.
