THE GORDONS

THE GORDONS

The website NZmusic.com (the initials standing for New Zealand) accurately pegged the Gordons as having “created good, old-fashioned inner torment that has rarely been communicated so effectively ever since.” Couldn’t agree more. Think of the Gordons as Sonic-Youth-meets-The-Fall-meets-The-Clean-meets-my-retired-uncle-who-drinks-more-than-he-should-because-he-married-someone-too-young-and-she-left-him-because-he-was-much-too-boring-for-her-anyway.

My favorite track is the final one on the first of their two albums, “Coalminers Song”, which in the past has caused me to beat my forehead against the pavement repeatedly. In a good way. For more schooling in the ways of New Zealand rock, visit the sadly on-haitus Mixotheque’s inagural month of programming.
